Motion Sensing Lights Empty Motion Sensing Lights

The timer switches for the stairwell/ landing lights are irritating and unlikely to be the most cost effective. If popping out to the bin cupboard I can often get down and back up before the lights extinguish but when elderly relatives visit, we are usually plunged into darkness whilst only halfway up the flight of stairs. At some point can they be replaced with motion-sensing units?
